American Akita vs. Japanese Akita –Know All About Them

Akita Japanese and Akita America are two different breeds, but they carry similar names in common, 'Akita' and have almost identical characteristics. Akita Japanese is also known as Akita Inus, and American Akita is commonly calling as Akita. These two have physical and personality differences. American breed

The American breed of Akita is called American Akita. It is a loyal and alert dog with a healthy body. The dog is one of the most intelligent breeds which you can choose as your pet. It is full of energy, but they use it wisely, so they remain agile for long without getting tired. These dogs are not habituated to live in a place full of chaos, so it is not prudent to have such a dog if you have kids in your house.

The Japanese breed


The Japanese Akita is large and sturdy as compared with the American type. They have alert ears and a fluffy tail curled towards the back. These two dog breed though of the same group differences in many respects let us see some of the different traits that make them unique.

The difference between these breeds

They differ in various respects like size, height, weight color and many. Let us see those in depth.

Size
The American Akita outsize his Japanese counterpart both in height and weight

The height of Japanese Akita is 22 ¾ to 27 ½ in which is about 58 to 70 cm. To be precise female dogs have a height of 23 to 25 inches and the males have a height of 25 to 28 inches.

The weight of these dogs is about 50 to 85 pounds that are 23 to 39 kilogram. The females weigh about 50 to 65 pounds and the males 70 to 85 pounds.

The American breed has a weight of 80 to 145 pounds which is 36 to 66 kilograms. The male dogs a weigh approximately 100 to 145 pounds, and the female dogs a weight about 80 to 120 pounds. The males are about 26 to 28 inches height, and females are about 24-26 inches in height.

Color
They differ in color also. You can get the American types in various colors while the Japanese breed has only a few restricted colors like brindle, red fawn, red fawn with black tips and white. Japanese race also does not have black masks which some of the American types have.

Shape of body
They differ visibly also in the shape of the body. The American type has a broad head and small eyes which are deep set and resembles a bear rather than a dog. The Japanese counterpart has a fox-like face, and the eyes are almond shaped.

The American types have a masculine body with bog bones while the Japanese appear to be slimmer as compared to their American counterpart.

Personality

These two breeds differ in personality traits also. Though they have the same temperament, they have some distinguishing characteristics which make them different. Both are independent and obstinate, faithful and defensive. The difference lies in the degree of the traits that they have. The American type can mix well with dogs of opposite sex but have trouble with dogs of the same sex.

The similarities that they share

There are also some similarities that they share. Let us see those.

When comparing American Akita vs. Japanese Akita both these breeds of have their own personality traits, and it is your personal preference that matters a lot when you decide to select the one most suitable to your living conditions. If we put the selection process in a simple pattern, we can say; the Akita Japanese is a companion dog, and the American Akita is more like a guard dog. But remember, both have almost the same temperaments. However, when you are on the verge of deciding a breed, it would be better to look for the personality traits of the parents. The puppy will be almost sure to inherit the ditto temperament and characteristics of the parent dogs.
